Bishop Burkat invites you to join her in prayer for law enforcement officers after the horrific killings of police in Dallas and Baton Rouge. In your personal devotions and congregational prayer, please remember the officers who were killed and wounded, their families and colleagues; the officers working to protect the conventions in Cleveland and Philadelphia; and the police and first responders in your communities who put themselves at risk to maintain public safety.
Here is a prayer you can use in your congregation or in your personal prayers:
Lord God of love, who through your Son, Jesus Christ, showed us how to love one another and protect the vulnerable and marginalized: Bless and protect the police officers, firefighters, EMS workers and others who run toward danger to keep us safe. Calm the division and anger that engulfs law enforcement officers and many communities they serve. Guide and safeguard these servants so that they may discharge their duties without fear and with professionalism, so that they may truly be officers of peace. Amen.
