Gratitude from Bishop Munga, NED

“We can witness that the prayers of our sisters and brothers in Christ are sustaining us,” wrote Bishop Stephen Munga of our companion North Eastern Diocese in Tanzania in response to a letter from Bishop Burkat carrying the thoughts, prayers and generosity of Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod members after Sebastian Kolowa Memorial University (SEKOMU) was attacked by armed men September 1. The Synod Council has authorized a special appeal to help raise $100,000 to repair damage on the campus.

“I believe that any gift offered from a loving heart is unimaginably of high value,” Bishop Munga writes. “For that reason, my words won’t be enough to express the love you are sharing with us. Thank you so much for that helping hand you are extending to us.” Bishop Munga’s complete letter is reproduced below.

Dear Claire,

Greetings from the [North Eastern Diocese]. Thank you very for your comforting message. Thank you, too, for your prayers at this time when we need them. We can witness that the prayers of our sisters and brothers in Christ are sustaining us. Through your prayers you carry with us the burden of worries and pains. For sure you and the whole SEPA Synod were here through the visiting group when this event happened. So the first word of comfort came from SEPA Synod through those sisters and brothers who were representing you. We, here at the NED, always believe and have come to learn that you stand very close to us and in many ways we have learnt and received so much from you. Our partnership has always been a blessing to us and has grown to the point of making us as one family. Truly we are one family in Christ and pray that the Holy Spirit make stronger this bond which unites us.

Secondly, I want to express my appreciation personally and on behalf of the NED for the donations you are collecting. You do this at the time when such gifts are needed to rebuild the hostels as well as strengthening the security of the university. I believe that any gift offered from a loving heart is unimaginably of high value. For that reason, my words won’t be enough to express the love you are sharing with us. Thank you so much for that helping hand you are extending to us. May our gracious Lord continue to bless you!

Lastly, I want to thank you again. Convey our greetings to sisters and brothers. We will continue to share with you all the development as we continue with the efforts to put things back in order. I believe that we will one day overcome all the threats and fear because that is what Jesus has promised us. We hold strongly to his promises because “His faithfulness endures forever.” (Psalm 117:2).

+Stephen.
