Turning Point Named Zone of Peace

Members of the Zones of Peace Steering Committee selected Rhawnhurst Turning Point to be recognized by the Religious Leaders Council of Greater Philadelphia as a Zone of Peace.

As a new member of the Zones of Peace Program, Turning Point joins a region-wide interfaith movement of churches, synagogues, mosques, other houses of worship, schools, and community-based organizations working to address the root causes of violence and promote peace.

Following the conversation with Turning Point leaders, one of the Zones of Peace Steering Committee members noted, “I think the Zones of Peace aspect of this organization rests in its commitment to serving multiple faiths, even though their core mission is based on Christianity. This speaks to the idea of fostering a collaborative community that strives to serve others.”

The Missional Urban Ministry team of the Presbytery of Philadelphia nominated Turning Point for its collaborative efforts to create “a place where youth can be safe, engage with one another in peaceful and peace-making ways, advance their education, and explore their artistic gifts.”

A ceremony where Turning Point will formally be recognized as a Zone of Peace is being planned.  Please check Turning Point’s website at: www.RhawnhurstTurningPoint.com soon for details on this community event.  For more information about the Zones of Peace program, visit http://www.interfaithcenterpa.org/si/zop/
