Pray, Prepare for Sandy

Loving God,

in the communion of Christ, we are joined with the trials and sufferings of all.

Be with those who have been affected by the winds and rain of Hurricane Sandy across the Caribbean, and protect those still in the path of danger.

Open the pathway of evacuations.

Provide assistance to those who need help.

Ease the fears of all and make your presence known in the stillness of your peace;

Through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Hurricane Sandy has caused damage and loss of life as it has moved across the Caribbean and across Cuba and the Bahamas. Forecasters say the storm is expected to strike the US east coast and may combine with a pre-winter storm to bring strong winds, significant rains and potential flooding to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast states, including Southeastern Pennsylvania, as early as Sunday evening. It is still too early to make definite predictions about this storm, but it is prudent to be prepared.

Please pray for those who have experienced loss of life, injury and property damage from this storm, as well as for those still in the path of the storm. Get more prayer resources here.

Consider this information from Lutheran Congregational Services, which operates Lutheran Disaster Response in Eastern PA, which describes what your congregation can do to prepare for and assist in a disaster.

Be prepared to respond to assist our neighbors, close and far, as needs become known in the wake of this storm.
