Embracing the Hope of Christ

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. – John 1:1-4

Beloved,

The story of Christmas is one of hope born in humble circumstances—a narrative that transcends time and continues to resonate deeply within our spirits. It speaks of a promise fulfilled, a light shining in the darkness, and the arrival of a Savior whose birth heralds a new beginning for humanity.

The hope of Christ that offers comfort, assurance, and renewal is especially poignant this year, as we search for light amid the darkness of wars, deep divisions at home, and many other crises on the planet.

The birth of Jesus Christ announces a message of hope that speaks to the weary, the marginalized, the broken-hearted, and the downtrodden—a promise that God’s love knows no bounds and is accessible to everyone. Christmas marks the dawn of a transformative journey—a journey that leads us to the cross and the resurrection, revealing the depth of God’s love for you, me, and all of God’s children. I tell my grandchildren sharing is caring. May we each share God’s love with all we encounter in our daily life.

With you on the journey,

The Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Davenport,
Bishop
