SUMMARY:What’s Next? Being Digital Church After the Pandemic
DESCRIPTION:The widespread use of COVID vaccines and the lessening of restrictions on gatherings are ushering us into our latest “abnormal” – a hybrid church that holds on to the best of its pandemic digital presence and rekindles in-person community. How might we do both sustainably? Why might digital be a better platform for some types of content? What skills will we need to develop for the long haul? How will we do the dreaded “E word” – evangelism – post pandemic? How will these changes impact congregational staffing\, budgets\, and priorities?\n \nJoin Pastor Keith Anderson\, author of The Digital Cathedral and Click 2 Save: The Social Media Bible\, to explore the big picture of hybrid digital church and learn strategies to create new and leverage existing content to expand your church’s reach.\n \nFREE\, essential learning and conversation for rostered ministers and lay church leaders\, especially church councils\, music and worship teams\, tech and evangelism teams. Register at ministrylink.org/what’s-next\n \nThursday\, May 13 @ 11 am\nSEPA Synod Communications Office Hours\n \nIf you’re interested but cannot join us live\, please register to be the first notified when the recording is available.\n \nREGISTER NOW

DESCRIPTION:The Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod ELCA will gather for a special online business meeting on Saturday\, April 24. \nThe business portions of this year’s Assembly will be totally online. SUMMARY:Chrism Service (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday of Holy Week\, March 30 at 10 am\, it is our tradition to gather for a service of Word and Sacrament\, for blessing of oil\, for healing prayer\, and renewal of ministry vows. The theme for this year’s virtual service is “Renewing our Baptismal Promises in Changing Times” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8) \nAs part of the service\, Bishop Davenport would like to remember individiduals from our Synod who have transitioned during this last year\, whether from COVID or other causes. Congregations can submit names at https://forms.gle/fTNCxJVYskApDDwS8. \nTo receive the Zoom link for this service\, please register at http://bit.ly/SEPA-chrism. \nBlessed oil will be distributed through your conference dean. \nThe Chrism Service is a time for ministers of Word and Sacrament and ministers of Word and Service to reaffirm promises made as they began their ministry\, and blessings for congregational deacons and assisting ministers to honor their local ministries. It is also a time to worship our Lord and be strengthened and renewed as we prepare to lead the faithful to the Cross and Resurrection.

SUMMARY:One Year Changed: Faith in Pandemic
DESCRIPTION:We have been leading\, parenting\, learning\, working\, neighboring\, and simply existing within a global health crisis for over a year. It has changed the way we live our lives\, the ways we connect meaningfully with one another\, and perhaps it has also changed our faith. \nIn this evening virtual retreat format\, gather with other people of faith to ponder how we might be moved into a different sort of spirituality this Lent. What have we let fall that we will never pick up again? What practices have emerged that may be meaningful far into the future? If this is truly a humanity-defining moment\, what have we learned about our species? About ourselves? About our spirits? \nWith seven-minute talks from faith leaders\, activists\, artists\, and more\, we will memorialize the way this moment has shaped us and will continue to influence us. We will spend time in prayer and reflection\, considering how the Spirit might be moving all of humanity in this moment. \nFeaturing: \n\nDr. Valerie Bridgeman\nDr. Ulysses Burley III\nDr. Jacqueline Bussie\nRev. Emmy Kegler\nRev. Angela T. Khabeb\nRev. Dr. Fulton L. Porter III\nRozella Haydée White\n\nLearn More at: \nhttps://churchanew.org/events/2021/3/11/one-year-changed-faith-in-pandemic \n

SUMMARY:Being Church in Times of Crisis: Weekly Gathering for ELCA Leaders
DESCRIPTION:Being Church in  Times of Crisis is a weekly online meeting for ELCA leaders\, rostered and lay.\n\n\n\nWe welcome back Dr. Martin Lohrmann on June 24. He is the Associate Professor of Lutheran Confessions and Heritage at Wartburg Theological Seminary. Among other works\, he is the author of Book of Harmony: Spirit and Service in the Lutheran Confessions (Fortress\, 2016) and the forthcoming Stories from Global Lutheranism: A Historical Introduction (Fortress\, expected summer 2020). \nUsing the 1966 documentary A Time for Burning as a starting point\, participants will learn about and discuss the ways that racism has impacted the witness and ministry of white Lutheran congregations in the United States. The session will also discuss antiracist values and strategies that people can use in daily life. \n\n\nIf you missed Dr. Lohrmann’s April 15 presentation “Hope and Lutheran History\,” you can watch that recording and find supporting documents here: https://www.elcacoaching.org/podcasts/media/2020-04-15-hope-and-lutheran-history. \nYou are invited to join this weekly gathering designed to provide encouragement and support for ELCA leaders across the church. Participants will hear topical presentations related to how we are called to be Church in times of crisis\, as well as an opportunity to be in small group discussions with an ELCA group coach facilitating the conversation. All of this is designed to help us process our feelings in this strange and fearful time and to create a space where we can each name our next most faithful step forward in our unique context. You are welcome to share this invitation with any other ELCA leader\, rostered or lay. #ELCAChurchTogether \nELCA Coaching is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. \nTopic: Being Church in Times of Crisis – Weekly Gathering for ELCA Leaders\nTime: June 24\, 2020 01:00 PM Central Time \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/180439412?pwd=WlVwUUxyUE5mY2IxMktHQXFJdGNMdz09\nMeeting ID: 180 439 412\nPassword: 648160 \nOne tap mobile\n+13462487799\,\,180439412#\,\,1#\,648160# US (Houston)\n+16699006833\,\,180439412#\,\,1#\,648160# US (San Jose) \nDial by your location\n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n+1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose)\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n+1 646 876 9923 US (New York)\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Germantown)\nMeeting ID: 180 439 412\nPassword: 648160

SUMMARY:Yellow Phase Faith: Questions and Considerations for Houses of Worship
DESCRIPTION:Last week\, the City unveiled Safer at Home\, a plan and executive order outlining the strategy for how Philadelphia will begin to reopen for business when the current Stay-at-Home Order is lifted\, which is expected to occur later this week.  The plan specifically outlines guidance for religious communities. Highlights include: \n\nGatherings of over 25 people are prohibited by the state until the Green Phase. The Philadelphia Department of Public Health recommends that NO gatherings of any size be held until the Green Phase.\nRequire all congregants to mask while on site.\nDO NOT allow choir practice\, performance\, or ANY group singing until public health authorities have given guidance on the safety of group singing. Consider refraining from responsive/group reading as well.\nContinue to offer remote service options even if in-person services resume to offer a safe option to those who need it.\nIf possible\, offer staggered service times to increase physical distancing.\nUse signage\, floor decals\, or other visual cues to encourage individuals and groups to space themselves at least 6 feet from others.\nRope off rows of chairs or pews so that congregants can only sit in every 3rd row.\nFor gatherings where congregants pray on mats\, separate mats by at least 6 feet.\nSeparate the service leader from front row of congregants and from other service leaders as much as possible\, keeping in mind that 6 feet may be inadequate because of vocal projection.\nDo not share items such as communion cups or offertory plates.\nFood and drink should not be served or consumed at services or gatherings until the Green Phase.\n\nTo learn more about the City’s Safer-at-Home Plan\, visit phila.gov/safer-at-home. \nJoin us next Wednesday\, June 10\, at 11am\, for Yellow Phase Faith: Questions and Considerations for Houses of Worship\, a special COVID-19 Update Call for Faith Leaders. Register below. \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \nREGISTER HERE >

SUMMARY:Online Clergy Workshop: In Over Your Head in the Ministry
DESCRIPTION:Clergy are on the front line in dealing with mental health issues in their places of ministry. It is common knowledge that folks tend to seek out their pastors\, priests\, rabbis\, and imams far sooner than they would consult with a mental health professional. However\, while clergy are often the ‘first responders’ to the demanding human situations of everyday life as well as crisis and life cycle events\, they are often not formally trained to deal with the counseling component of their work. Many clergy are afraid that they will do more harm than good. In this workshop\, Dr. Stephen Treat will look at some common mental health issues that clergy see in the ministry such as depression\, personality disorders\, and trauma and will offer some guidelines for addressing these challenging issues in ministry\n\nPresenter: Rev. Dr. Stephen R. Treat\, MFT and CEO Emeritus of Council for Relationships\, Ordained in the UCC\nWednesday\, June 3\, 2020\n11:00 am – 1:00 pm\n\nLocation: Online via Zoom Videoconferencing\n\nCost: $15\n\nAny questions can be directed to The Rev. Dr. Dolores Littleton\, Director of the Clergy Track of the Post Graduate Certificate Program\,at dlittleton@councilforrelationships.org.
