Job Description

Reports to: Senior Pastor

Accountable to:Church/Executive Council, Senior Pastor, and Youth & Family/Christian Education teams

Status:  Full time – Exempt (willing to consider ¾ time, including nights and weekends)


Purpose: The Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministry will envision, build, implement and lead a vibrant program for the Trinity Lutheran Church community, in consultation with the Senior Pastor and other team leaders, in a way that is consistent with the mission, values and theology of the church. The Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministry will also work collaboratively with the Senior Pastor and Director of Trinity Country Nursery School and Kindergarten (TCNSK) in developing and leading a faith ministry with TCNSK. The Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministry will be a regular presence in our weekly Sunday worship and programming.


Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Senior Pastor for children’s worship experience; a willingness to preach desired
  • Lead as a servant leader, with the ability to recruit, motivate, train, equip and empower volunteers for ministry
  • Develop and maintain budget, in collaboration with Children’s, Youth and Family team
  • Manage Confirmation Program, co-teaching with parents and Senior Pastor
  • Manage First Holy Communion Program, co-teaching with parents and Senior Pastor
  • Be a public face in the community, attending activities of our children and youth as possible
  • Monitor and maintain a safe ministry for children and youth to gather, grow and serve
  • Create and manage a ministry to our college age young adults
  • Manage Sunday school programming
  • Submit monthly written report to church council
  • Attend monthly staff meeting
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with staff, committees and volunteers in a dynamic environment and to respond positively even when demands come from multiple angles or in a season of high pressure. Ability to work with and gain support from the congregation, volunteers and ministry teams
  • Other duties as assigned


Education, Skills and Abilities:

  • A. or equivalent from accredited college or combination of work and education experience
  • 1-5 years experience developing and leading children’s/youth activities desired
  • Experience with Christian Faith formation
  • Ease working in the virtual world – proficient with social media
  • Experience with non-profit agencies is a plus
  • Strong written, verbal and listening skills
  • Positive role model for Christian faith and witness
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Proficient PC skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and internet.
  • Must have own transportation to work location, as well as a valid driver’s license/insurance. Driving children and youth will be required at times.
  • Successful completion of required background checks/training, including: Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Clearance Check, State Mandated Training


Compensation: Salary is negotiable, and will be based on skills
