This Day of Service is an excellent service opportunity for youth groups\, families\, and individuals. The day begins at 9:30 a.m. at Benbow Hall in ULS’ Brossman Center\, 7301 Germantown Ave.\, Philadelphia PA 19119. DESCRIPTION:Mental Health First Aid® (MHFA) Virtual Training\nSponsored by the City of Philadelphia\, Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services \nThe Adult MHFA virtual training is based on new curricula that includes expanded content on trauma\, addiction\, and self-care. Youth MHFA includes new content applicable for adults working with young people\, including content on the impact of social media. The content is gender-neutral and culturally relevant.\n\nSimilar to CPR\, Mental Health First Aiders learn basic skills to help another person in need of support. Mental Health First Aid teaches how to assist a person who may be struggling with mental health or addiction challenges\, and what to do if the person you are helping is in crisis.\n\n\nResearch shows that people are more likely to assist another person after this training\, and more likely to recommend treatment resources. This training has also shown to decrease stigma toward people with behavioral health challenges.\n\nFirst Aiders will complete the Self-Paced Pre-work prior to participating in a 5.5-hour\, Instructor-led class using videoconferencing technology. Completion of both courses is required to obtain the 3-year national certification as a Mental Health First Aider.\nQuestions? The next cycle begins with a 90-minute introduction to the curriculum via Zoom on March 11\, 7 to 8:30 p.m. \nParticipants complete nine online modules outlining the historical context of the systemic racism embedded in our current institutions\, at their convenience\, over nine weeks. The program concludes with an in-person\, day-long session on Saturday\, June 1\, 2024\, at the Brossman Center\, United Lutheran Seminary\, 7301 Germantown Avenue\, Philadelphia. \nThis curriculum fulfills the mandatory requirement for anti-racism education by the synod’s rostered ministers. DESCRIPTION:The Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod’s Anti-Racism Team announces a new offering of free anti-racism education\, this time for both lay and rostered participants. The next cycle begins with a 90-minute introduction to the curriculum via Zoom on March 11\, 7 to 8:30 p.m. \nParticipants complete nine online modules outlining the historical context of the systemic racism embedded in our current institutions\, at their convenience\, over nine weeks. The program concludes with an in-person\, day-long session on Saturday\, June 1\, 2024\, at the Brossman Center\, United Lutheran Seminary\, 7301 Germantown Avenue\, Philadelphia. \nThis curriculum fulfills the mandatory requirement for anti-racism education by the synod’s rostered ministers. As such\, rostered ministers are strongly encouraged to participate. \nRegister by March 1 by sending email to antiracism@sepa.org.
