SUMMARY:Providing Emotional Spiritual Care in Disasters
DESCRIPTION:Disasters come to us in many forms: natural disasters like hurricanes\, earthquakes\, tornadoes\, wildfires\, industrial accidents\, or biological disasters such as the COVID-19 pandemic. And some\, sadly\, are human caused\, such as a mass shooting or bombing. However they come\, being present and providing emotional spiritual care for survivors in times of a disaster is our calling. As children of a loving God\, we are called to share that love in the world for the sake of our neighbors. This is the first webinar in a four-part series designed to provide basic skills and an overview of emotional spiritual care in a disaster. This webinar focuses on how to render psychological first aid and provide basic emotional spiritual care in a disaster. We will identify the emotional responses associated with the experience of a disaster\, examine how grief and loss could impact our emotional responses; learn about the phases of a disaster\, as well as the U.S. disaster response systems and networks developed through the years that include many local and national partners. And finally\, we will discuss how to use psychological first aid in the aftermath of a disaster. \nYou are invited to a Zoom meeting.\nWhen: Apr 19\, 2021 05:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)\nRegister in advance for this meeting: Register Here \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

SUMMARY:2021 Synod Assembly
DESCRIPTION:The Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod ELCA will gather for a special online business meeting on Saturday\, April 24. \nThe business portions of this year’s Assembly will be totally online. And because most people would find it tedious to be logged in to an online meeting for two full days (our usual Assembly schedule)\, we have pared down the agenda to fit into one day. \n\nGet full details and registration info here

SUMMARY:What’s Next? Being Digital Church After the Pandemic
DESCRIPTION:The widespread use of COVID vaccines and the lessening of restrictions on gatherings are ushering us into our latest “abnormal” – a hybrid church that holds on to the best of its pandemic digital presence and rekindles in-person community. How might we do both sustainably? Why might digital be a better platform for some types of content? What skills will we need to develop for the long haul? How will we do the dreaded “E word” – evangelism – post pandemic? How will these changes impact congregational staffing\, budgets\, and priorities?\n \nJoin Pastor Keith Anderson\, author of The Digital Cathedral and Click 2 Save: The Social Media Bible\, to explore the big picture of hybrid digital church and learn strategies to create new and leverage existing content to expand your church’s reach.\n \nFREE\, essential learning and conversation for rostered ministers and lay church leaders\, especially church councils\, music and worship teams\, tech and evangelism teams. Register at ministrylink.org/what’s-next\n \nThursday\, May 13 @ 11 am\nSEPA Synod Communications Office Hours\n \nIf you’re interested but cannot join us live\, please register to be the first notified when the recording is available.\n \nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:God's Work. Our Hands. Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendar for Sunday\, Sept. 12\, when congregations of the ELCA will come together for “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday. Our church continues to live through the COVID-19 pandemic. Physical distancing has changed the way we worship and serve. But the need is great\, and God’s church is at work. \nWe’re not sure what the impact of this crisis will look like in September\, but we continue to be church together. We are witnessing the outpouring of love and concern that God’s people have for one another. Our congregations continue to maintain feeding ministries\, serve communities disproportionately affected by COVID-19 infection and assist people who are financially burdened by the economic downturn. \n“Service in the Time of COVID-19” was developed to offer service project ideas and considerations for safely supporting your community in this time of pandemic. \nAs we gather together in service to our neighbors\, we are reminded of one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: All of life in Jesus Christ — every act of service\, in every daily calling\, in every corner of life — flows freely from a living\, daring confidence in God’s grace. Be sure to save the date and visit ELCA.org/DayofService for updates to our resources. \nYou work every day to make your community a better place. We look forward to working together with you on “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday. \n
