DESCRIPTION:Honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.\nMonday\, January 15\, 2024\nJoin us on Monday\, January 15 at United Lutheran Seminary Philadelphia Campus for MLK Day of Service to help disaster survivors near and far. Together we will pack hygiene kits and clean-up kits for Lutheran Disaster Response\, and have a time to remember Dr. King’s life and ministry \nAll ages are welcome! This Day of Service is an excellent service opportunity for youth groups\, families\, and individuals. The day begins at 9:30 a.m. at Benbow Hall in ULS’ Brossman Center\, 7301 Germantown Ave.\, Philadelphia PA 19119. Lunch is available for a freewill offering but you must register in advance for lunch by emailing Heidi Shilanskus at hshilanskas@gmail.com. The event will conclude by 1:30 p.m. \nIf you can’t join us on Monday\, January 15\, you can still help!\n\nAssemble hygiene and disaster clean-up kits at your church as part of your remembrance of Dr. King. Do not use a bucket that has held chemicals of any kind. No screw lid. Advertisement on the outside acceptable.)\n\nNEW – One 4-8oz. pump spray air freshener\n\nFive scouring pads (No stainless steel or pads with soap in them. Remove from packaging.)\n\nSeven sponges\, including one large\n\nOne scrub brush (With or without handle.)\n\n18 reusable\, lightweight multipurpose dry cleaning towels (No terrycloth\, microfiber or paper towels. Remove from packaging.)\n\nOne 32-64oz. or two 25oz. bottle(s) of liquid laundry detergent\n\nOne 16-34oz. bottle of liquid disinfectant dish soap\n\nOne 12-40oz. bottle of liquid concentrate household cleaner that can be mixed with water (No spray bottles.)\n\nOne package of 36-50 clothespins\n\nOne 50-100ft. clothesline (Cotton or plastic line.)\n\nFive dust masks (N95 particulate respirator dust masks preferred; No surgical masks.)\n\nTwo pairs of heavy-duty\, waterproof dishwashing gloves (Latex-free\, non-surgical. Durable for multiple-use. Remove from packaging.)\n\nOne pair of work gloves (Cotton with leather palm or all leather.)\n\n20-28 heavy duty or contractor type 30-45 gallon trash bags on a roll (Remove from packaging.)\n\nOne 6-9oz. bottle of non-aerosol insect repellent (Pump spay bottles must have protective covers. SUMMARY:Peace Day Philly 2022
DESCRIPTION:Philadelphia will join with groups and organizations around the world to mark this global day of local opportunity September 21. The event will be held at the north side of City Hall\, at Broad Street and JDK Blvd. The global Peace Day theme\, set by the United Nations\, is End Racism. Build Peace. Guests will speak to this theme and we will share in the global act of observing one minute of silence at 12 noon. Live music and poetry will also be a part of this event\, as well as Chalk 4 Peace and peace button art-making. Free. \n\n\n\n\nPeace Day Philly is the local initiative for the UN International Day of Peace\, September 21. Since 2011\, Peace Day Philly has encouraged\, collaborated on and offered over 175 programs related to peace and justice on and around Peace Day. This September\, over a dozen in-person and virtual programs will be offered from Sept. 15 – Sept. 21. \nThe global theme for Peace Day 2022 is: End Racism. Build Peace. Thus\, some of our programs relate to issues of racism and peace on personal\, local and global levels.
