SUMMARY:1522/2022: Lutheranism and the Status Quo
DESCRIPTION:United Lutheran Seminary is sponsoring its annual Luther Colloquy with featured speakers President Guy Erwin\, Dr. Volker Leppin\, Dr. Monica Melancthon\, and Dr. Amy Nelson Burnett speaking on the topic of “Lutheranism and the Status Quo.” Wednesday October 26th on the Gettysburg campus. Livestream is available. \nThe year 1522 was decisive in the history of the Reformation—Luther repudiated the push for rapid\, iconoclastic changes to worship led by his one-time ally Andreas Bodenstein von Karlstadt\, aligned himself with a prince-led Reformation\, and published his prayer book and his translation of the New Testament to shape the piety of the “common person.” This year’s Luther Colloquy examines how Luther secured the endurance of the Lutheran Reformation and asks what we can learn for good or for ill. How did Lutheranism establish itself as the status quo and what resources for a theological challenge to the status quo remained and remain? \nRegistration fee: $15. \nLunch fee: $15 \nFor more information and to register\, please click here or use QR code ➡︎

SUMMARY:Chrism Service

Blessingsare also offered for congregational deacons and assisting ministers to honor their local ministries. SUMMARY:2021 Rostered Ministers' Equipping Event
DESCRIPTION:“Struck down\, but not destroyed…”\nThe Road to Reconnection\nSEPA Synod Rostered Ministers’ Equipping Event\nNovember 16\, 17 and 18\, 2021\nA Hybrid Event \nREGISTER NOW! \n \nEach year Bishop Davenport calls together rostered ministers for a gathering to be equipped\, refreshed and reconnected with one another. We have heard your desire to connect in person\, but at this point we believe that gathering in one place is too risky\, given the uncertain trajectory of COVID and its variants. This year our plan is to gather in three satellite locations with an online-only option\, so that all may participate in the most comfortable way for them. \nThis challenging time in our ministries brings to mind Paul’s message to the church at Corinth: \nWe are afflicted in every way\, but not crushed; perplexed\, but not driven to despair; persecuted\, but not forsaken; struck down\, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus\, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our bodies. – 2 Corinthians 4:8-10 \n\n\n\nWe’re excited to announce that this year’s event is FREE to express appreciation for our Synod’s rostered ministers and your faithful work during the pandemic!\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW! \nIn-person locations are United Lutheran Seminary\, Upper Dublin Lutheran Church\, Little Zion Lutheran Church\, and St. James Lutheran Church\, Limerick. Attendance at each site is limited and will close once filled. Online participation is available. Proof of vaccination is required to enter the event. We’ve invited two speakers whose stories exemplify the hope that Paul portrays.  \nBishop Dwayne D. Royster is a pastor\, political activist\, radio host and speaker who is a leading voice in modern faith-based activism. He heads POWER\, an advocacy organization seeking to transform Pennsylvania\, and is senior pastor of Faith United Church of Christ in Washington\, DC. \n  \n  \nPastor Erich Kussman applies the hard-won life lessons earned through crime and punishment\, mentorship and seminary\, to his call as pastor of St. Bartholomew’s Lutheran Church in Trenton\, NJ – in a neighborhood plagued by drugs\, poverty\, crime and violence. “People needed hope\,” he says. By letting people know that they are loved no matter their station in life\, “to me that’s preaching the gospel. That’s living the calling.” Pastor Kussman’s story was featured on A&E’s online series “The Redeemed.” \n  \nREGISTER NOW! \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Online Clergy Workshop: In Over Your Head in the Ministry
DESCRIPTION:Clergy are on the front line in dealing with mental health issues in their places of ministry. It is common knowledge that folks tend to seek out their pastors\, priests\, rabbis\, and imams far sooner than they would consult with a mental health professional. However\, while clergy are often the ‘first responders’ to the demanding human situations of everyday life as well as crisis and life cycle events\, they are often not formally trained to deal with the counseling component of their work. Many clergy are afraid that they will do more harm than good. In this workshop\, Dr. Stephen Treat will look at some common mental health issues that clergy see in the ministry such as depression\, personality disorders\, and trauma and will offer some guidelines for addressing these challenging issues in ministry\n\nPresenter: Rev. Dr. Stephen R. Treat\, MFT and CEO Emeritus of Council for Relationships\, Ordained in the UCC\nWednesday\, June 3\, 2020\n11:00 am – 1:00 pm\n\nLocation: Online via Zoom Videoconferencing\n\nCost: $15\n\nAny questions can be directed to The Rev. Dr. Dolores Littleton\, Director of the Clergy Track of the Post Graduate Certificate Program\,at dlittleton@councilforrelationships.org.
