Media Day of ARTolerance

October 28 @ 3:00 pm

On Sunday, October 28 @ 3 p.m. ARTolerance brings its message of multicultural and interfaith understanding to Beth Israel Congregation in collaboration with Reformation Lutheran Church.

Founded by Philadelphia Orchestra cellist Udi Bar-David, ARTolerance uses music, poetry and story-telling to overcome divisiveness and give audiences tools to enrich their community. Featuring Bar-David on cello, global percussionist Rolando Morales Matos , master story teller Charlotte Blake Alston and guest violinist Dr. Hanna Khoury, Director of the Penn Arab Music Ensemble.

Bar-David will share his recent historic visit to the Middle East which brought the Philadelphia Orchestra to Israel for the first time in 25 years. There, he witnessed grass root efforts of reconciliation and hope. In these times of polarization, Bar-David challenges audiences to initiate dialog with those who do not share their religious, racial or political identities.

Born in Israel, Bar-David uses music as the starting point for building bridges of understanding. “It evolved as a result of my wish to learn music of other cultures, coupled with my strong interest in conflict resolution. I was getting very disillusioned with political systems and started realizing that artists could be more involved in political dialogues, especially by creating a safe and trusting environment,” Bar-David said.

All are welcome. Beth Israel Congregation 542 S. New Middletown Road, Media, PA 19063. 610-566-4645.
