Luther’s catechisms were an overnight success because he understood his reading audience and blended the old with the new. His approach and his content were TRADITIONAL. He used the medieval method of question and answer and discussed the basic faith statements of the church catholic: the Lord’s Prayer, the Commandments, the Creed, and the Sacraments. His GENIUS was to rearrange the topics. By doing that his catechisms preached the gospel and comforted the troubled conscience.
If you were confirmed in the Lutheran Church, then you “know” Luther’s Small Catechism. But, his Large Catechism is equally rich. This workshop is devoted to these wonderful guides that Luther wrote for parishioners and pastors. If you are new to the Lutheran Church, then this workshop may provide answers to some of the questions in the back of your head.
What better way to prepare for the 500th Commemoration of the Reformation in October than to spend some time in the Catechisms. Come, learn, and be blessed. June 3 is the date. The event will take place at, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1239 Clover Mill Road, Chester Springs, PA. Call St. Peter’s (610-933-9611) with your desire to attend. This will help the church with its planning.
