Lutheran Church of God’s Love in Newtown, PA is seeking a part time Organist and Director of Choirs to lead music in our traditional worship services.

Job Description

The Organist and Director of Choirs will work with the Pastor, Worship Committee, staff, and professional and volunteer musicians to ensure that a fully planned, well-coordinated musical experience is produced with faithfulness to the Lutheran liturgical tradition, with artistic excellence, and in the spirit of Christian love.

From September through June, the Organist and Director of Choirs will provide overall musical planning, direction, and accompaniment for our Sunday morning, more traditional service. This includes rehearsing and directing a selection by either the adult choir or, less frequently, the bell choir. During the summer months, he or she will work with the director of the contemporary worship band in musical planning, direction, and accompaniment for combined services.

The ideal candidate will be able to fill the roles of Organist and Director of vocal and bell choirs. However, exceptional candidates qualified to perform individual portions of this job will be considered.

Salary will be commensurate with experience, skill levels, educational qualifications.


  • Serve as music coordinator and principal organist for traditional Sunday morning worship service and religious holidays, and other special events
  • Work with pastor to select hymns for weekly services
  • Select and perform additional music (preludes, postludes, etc.) appropriate to the service
  • Encourage congregational participation in singing hymns and liturgy
  • Plan and coordinate special music events
  • Arrange for instrumentalists to enhance music at special worship services, such as Easter and Christmas
  • Work with director of contemporary worship band to provide music for combined services
  • Serve as director for the traditional adult vocal choir
  • Serve as director for bell and chime choirs
  • Recruit, train, and rehearse members of the ensembles under direction
  • Seek to involve congregation members of all ages in the musical life of the church
  • Provide support and recognition to all volunteers participating in the traditional music program
  • Arrange for the proper maintenance of piano, organ, bells, and chimes
  • Purchase music and other supplies needed to perform duties
  • Participate in regular meetings with pastor and worship committee
