The Director of the St. John’s Pre-K Ministry (Pre-K) is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, day-to-day operation and long range planning of the Pre-K. Through presence and participation the Director will cultivate relationships with staff, children, and families and encourage the development of similar relationships within the St. John’s Community. This is a part time position requiring 20 hours of work each week during the school year, with an annual salary of $12,000.

The Director of the St. John’s Pre-K Ministry (Pre-K) is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, day-to-day operation and long range planning of the Pre-K. Through presence and participation the Director will cultivate relationships with staff, children, and families and encourage the development of similar relationships within the St. John’s Community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: General Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Pre-K Board and Staff to fulfill the educational mission of the ministry
  • Maintain, interpret, and carry out all policies and documentation required Pennsylvania State Law, and the policies of St. John Lutheran Church
  • Oversee the administration of the St. John’s Pre-K
  • Market and promote the Pre-K in the community
  • Maintain educational standards that align with the requirements of local school districts for students entering kindergarten
  • Ability to lead faith based conversations with children

Enrollment

  • Promote, and grow enrollment throughout the year
  • Ability to communicate the Pre-K program’s benefits to parents

Staff

  • Plan for staffing needs of all areas of the Pre-K and arrange for substitute help as needed
  • Recruit, interview, and hire staff as needed
  • Provide for the training of staff in policies and requirements of the congregation, and commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Implement and maintain background checks on all staff
  • Observe, and evaluate staff yearly and as needed
  • Manage corrective and disciplinary actions
  • Plan and lead Pre-K staff meetings, and participate in Pre-K Board of Director meetings

Curriculum Development and Assessment of Children

  • Work with staff to plan and implement curriculum standards to ensure students are prepared for Kindergarten in our local school districts
  • Evaluate and adjust curriculum annually and as needed
  • Provide curriculum information to families
  • Plan and coordinate field trips and events on and off site with the teachers
  • Monitor equipment and supply needs to maintain curriculum needs

Family Information and Involvement

  • Conduct tours and visits of Pre-K as needed, and maintain communication with parents throughout the school year
  • Develop and maintain a Pre-K Handbook for parents each year
  • Provide families with changes to policies as needed
  • Provide families with information regarding available services and resources from the community and school districts.

Financial Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a budget and monitor income, and expenses, in cooperation with the Pre-K Board and St. John’s Financial Director
  • Establish appropriate salaries and compensation plans for Pre-K staff positions in cooperation with the Pastor, the Church Council, and the Pre-K Board
  • Collect tuition and payments from parents each month

Communication and Marketing

  • Communicate with the congregation, church staff, and Pre-K Families regularly and as requested
  • Develop and maintain an St. John’s Pre- Newsletter, and monthly updates in the congregational newsletter, website, and Facebook page
  • Evaluate and participate in marketing and advertising opportunities in the community
  • Exhibit strong communication skills using 21st century technology

ACCOUNTABILITY/REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position will:

  • Report to the Senior Pastor
  • Participate in Congregational staff meetings and Pre-K Board Meetings
  • Directly supervise the Pre-K Staff

Required experience:

  • Classroom and/or Supervisory: 3 years

Required license or certification:

  • CPR & First Aid
