Family of God Lutheran Church in Buckingham, PA is seeking a Director of Music Ministries. The primary role of this part-time position is to direct and/or coordinate the presentation of music.  The candidate will collaborate activities closely with the Pastor and the Worship & Music Team to best equip and support individuals and ensembles engaged in the presentation of music. The responsibilities average 10 to 12 hours per week.  Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate the presentation of music at Family of God during worship services and other events, in consultation with the pastor and other music leaders (organist and, potentially, bell choir director), and thru participation on the Worship & Music Team.
  • Serve as director of the Sanctuary Choir, by selecting choir anthems in consultation with the Pastor, scheduling and leading weekly rehearsals and directing the choir during worship services.
  • Participate in and/or direct the Jubilation Ringers, coordinating the timing of and selection of anthems with other music ensembles and the bell director.
  • Select hymns for worship services, in collaboration with the Pastor and Organist; serve as cantor and/or schedule volunteer cantors, as needed.
  • Schedule and, if necessary, hold rehearsals with soloist and/or small ensembles, as required (e.g., during the summer).



  • Select the music and/or prepare the choirs for events and special services throughout the Church year, such as, but not limited to, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Thanksgiving Eve, as determined by consultation with the Pastor, Worship & Music Team and musicians. Participation in Family of God’s summer Vacation Bible School is encouraged.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in music or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of liturgical practice and role of music in worship; ideally knowledgeable of Lutheran theology.
  • Experience in choral conducting, with ability to play at least one instrument and read music.
  • Working knowledge of alternative worship music styles (e.g., classical, contemporary, folk, and gospel).
