POSITION SUMMARY:

To equip and empower children and families to experience God’s love through educational, fellowship, and service opportunities. The Director will introduce matters of faith and life using appropriate curriculum, Biblical study, community building events, and service opportunities within the community of Gloria Dei and in the community we live. To

nurture each child in establishing a life•long relationship with Jesus, to help each child discover that getting to know God can be fun, and to provide caring adults who will help families to plant seeds of faith. Position averages 20 hours per week for twelve months.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

40%    Plan and implement age appropriate spiritual, educational & social activities for children and families (w/ children 6th grade or younger) within and outside our congregation. Ministries currently include, but not limited to: Nursery, Sunday Classes, service projects, holiday events, choir and Vacation Bible School. Select & purchase age appropriate curriculum and materials for programs as well as coordinate facility use and equipment as needed.

20%    Recruit, train, direct & support congregation volunteers for programs involving children & family ministry. Obtain proper clearances on all volunteers. Provide curriculum as needed.

15%    Work with staff to contribute to the mission of Gloria Dei Church. Be in communication with office staff and provide a timely and accurate schedule of Children and Family Ministry Events including attending staff meetings & planning sessions, when needed.

15%    Keep the congregation informed of events by coordinating the publicity for activities through the appropriate medias provided by the church. (e.g., newsletter, special mailings, posters, bulletin, announcements, website, social media [i.e., Facebook], etc.) Provide monthly reports for the Church Council. Advertise within the greater community as need for programs such as Vacation Bible School.

10%    Initiate and work closely with pastoral staff in planning and leading Preschool Chapel and periodic Children’s messages during Sunday worship.

A candidate should possess:

  • Clear and effective oral, written and listening skills
  • Strong planning, organizational and coaching skills
  • Ability to convey spiritual formation principles
  • Experience with curriculum development and varied learning styles
  • Effectiveness in dealing and relating to both children and their families; discerning their needs
  • An ability to work within an established budget
  • Very good technology skills, including social medi
  • Personal boundaries and confidentiality
  • An ability to create a safe group environment for children to explore their faith
  • Respect & acceptance of diverse cultures, family dynamics, and personalities
  • An ability to manage large programs and events

QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

Gloria Dei Church seeks a professional leader & team player who has a solid understanding of the foundations of the Christian faith and who has a strong desire to nurture young people and their parents in the Christian faith. We seek a person who generates new ideas and programs and a person who values a team concept of ministry.  Previous Children Ministry or work experience with young children and youth is required.

Candidate must submit complete all required clearances prior to hiring including Federal Criminal History Fingerprinting, Pennsylvania State Criminal Record Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History clearance and a Mandated Reporter training.
